2018-2019 PTA Exective Board Members
Partnerships between parents, educators and children enhance children’s success. The HMS PTA is in need of Executive Board Members for the 2018-2019 school year in order to continue hosting programs that benefit our children and teachers! Please think about joining the PTA as an officer or a volunteer and helping to make a difference in your community. The following executive board positions are open: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. These commitments take less than 10 hours per month.
8th Grade Dance: Donations & Volunteers
Our annual 8th grade dance is scheduled for Friday, June 8th from 6:30-8:30 in the Herndon Middle School gym. This year’s theme, based on student votes, is going to be Glow in the Dark. Students are encouraged to dress in bright or neon colors; examples and ideas on how to dress have been shared with the students in school (we encourage semi-formal attire). Tickets will be on sale for $5.00 each starting May 31st in the cafeteria. Click here for more information on how to donate or volunteer, and for information on how to order tickets online.
Last Chance to Get a Year Book
There are only 2 weeks left to order your 2017-2018 HMS yearbook. Don't miss this opportunity. Books can be ordered online through MySchoolBucks or by bringing $30 to Miss Clements (cash or checks made out to Herndon Middle School). Your student will not want to miss the opportunity to hold onto their memories and to have their friends sign their yearbook. Order today before time runs out.
Overdue Library Books
If you received a KIT message, your student has overdue library materials. Please support your student in returning borrowed library materials. Encourage your student to stop by the library and check their record; return any overdue or outstanding library materials to the HMS library; and pay for any missing or lost items (this can be done through MySchoolBucks). Library materials that have not been returned by June 11, 2018 will result in a bill for the cost of replacement.
For students who want to go home together on the bus after school:
Bus Notes: a hand-written bus note, with parent’s signature, is required from both parents of the students making the request. A temporary bus pass will not be issued without the hand written notes from both families. These policies are in place for your child’s safety. Thank you for cooperation and understanding. Notes must be submitted to the office before the last block of the day.
National Mental Health Awareness Month
May is National Mental Health Awareness month. Many students struggle with emotional and behavioral issues that can affect their learning and overall wellness. To help address this, HMS will participate in Stress Less Week! The Student Services department has organized a week of fun activities to help students and staff relax, unwind, and stress less!
