Each year, 7^th and 8^th graders at Herndon Middle School (HMS) are encouraged to submit an essay to the Herndon Rotary Club as part of the “4 Way Test” contest. The essays can be based on any subject/story/related topic as long as the essay relates to the Rotary International 4 Way Test (The Rotarians’ 4-Way Test of the Things We Think, Say, or Do:

1-Is it the Truth?

2-Is it Fair to all concerned?

3-Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?

4-Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?).

Each HMS essay is reviewed by a panel of Rotarian members/judges and a winning essay is selected for recognition and small cash prize. The winning HMS essay is then entered into the Rotary District 7610 4 Way Test Contest, and a district winner is selected. That award also comes with a small cash prize.
