Coming Up from Student Services, including Wellness Screening
Adolescence can be a trying time for all students. Herndon Middle School is committed to supporting the diverse emotional needs of our students. We have several events coming up on our calendar centered in supporting healthy choices and supports.
The Youth Survey (given in 8th grade to all FCPS students) provides the county with a wealth of information about a variety of topics related to our youth, from sleep and nutritional habits to protective factors and risk factors that influence their physical and mental well-being. Herndon MS is administering this through Civics classes on November 15 and 16th.
Herndon Middle School conducts a Wellness Screening in November. Seventh graders are screened on November 7th and 9th. More information, including an opt out form can be found here. Opt out forms are due for 7th graders on November 5th.
Eighth graders will participate in a modified screening on November 13th during HawkTime. More information including opt out forms can be found here. Opt out forms are due for 8th graders on November 8th.
As a Positivity Project school, we focus on empowering our students to build positive relationships and to understand, appreciate, and exemplify the character strengths in us all. We are committed to taking proactive steps to help all students recognize their potential and importance. We will have an adjusted bell schedule and guest speaker on November 19th. Mr. John Halligan will present to HMS students to relay his own tragic experience as a Dad whose thirteen-year-old son took his own life in 2003 after incessant bullying by peers both in school and online. His story is riveting and powerful and reminds students that there is a face, a person, and a heart on the other end of the screen. More information can be found here. Opt out forms can be found here and would be due on November 15th.
